Over all, the North East skaters skated very competitively at NIRA Nationals. We had several medals taken home that weekend including some overall National Champions. Unlike USARS, NIRA awards individual medals, so to be an overall champion in your division is a tremendous accomplishment. Awesome job to all who participated!

We also had two referees from our region work NIRA Nationals as invited officials: Wolfe Blanke of Long Island, and Kristin DiJulio of Rhode Island. Congratulations to both of them for being selected for a National Event.

Silver City

There have been a lot of changes in Taunton this year. As most of you know, Joe Huber has retired as Head Coach. Ernie Pierce has taken over this role and is in the process of becoming a certified coach. Nick Butler is now the Assistant Coach of Silver City's team. The coaches have selected two Team Captains: Emily Hargraves and Eric DeFalco. Good luck to the both of them in their endeavors as Team Captains. The team will also have new uniforms for this season.

At this time, practices are closed. Ernie will let us know when practice times become open, but he did supply us with a schedule of practice times: Tuesdays 6-8 p.m.; Fridays and Saturdays 4:30-7 p.m.

Austin Smith has re-joined the Armed Services and is doing well.

Team RISK

Skaters formally from Warwick and Narragansett have joined forces as Team RISK and are skating out of Narragansett, RI. Practices are open to all, the practice schedule is as follows: Saturday and Sunday 4:30-7:30 p.m.; Monday 6:30-9:30p.m; and Tuesday 7:30-10 p.m. There is a $5.00 practice fee for non-club skaters. Jorge Botero has returned from Europe after capturing 6 silver medals at World’s and finishing in 2nd place overall for the World Cup. He is happy to announce his engagement to Julianna, his long time girlfriend. The couple plans to wed in May of 2001 and will make their home in Rhode Island.

Head coaches Paul Di Julio and Dick Young were very happy with how the team performed at NIRA Nationals and at the 10th Annual City Skate Marathon at Prospect Park in Brooklyn, NY. The race took place on September 23rd on a moderately hilly course. The skaters had a grueling 62 mile race which consisted of 19 laps.

Coach Dick Young has been recovering from back surgery and will be returning to a more active role on the team gradually.

Team results are as follows:
